Just cooking mustard greens today and maybe some brown lentils all to go with a picnic ham. I've managed to get and we've eaten 8 of the 9 picnic hams I've gotten in the last year for less than $1/lb. One more to go, gad!

Morning, all! Relatively quiet day around the house, and for that, I am grateful. We’re going into the big city this evening for a fundraising dinner and silent auction to benefit the DeafBlind Camp which one of our boys is associated with. It’s more than just a camp, and this will help with other events and get-togethers they do throughout the year.

The meal being served is being prepared by a trained chef who themselves is DeafBlind and I’m really looking forward to hearing their story.

Today's plan...finish decorating for Christmas, schlep the boxes it all came out of to storage (we'll need to drag them back on January 7th) and cutting and splitting wood. We heat with a wood stove and were gifted with a trailer load of well seasoned hardwood logs. They'll go a long way toward making me feel like we've got close to enough wood.

In between all of that, I've got to get bread made, drag something out of the freezer for dinner and run to the store to pick up a couple of things for Christmas dinner. I'm making a chocolate cheesecake for desert and need a couple of ingredients like the cream cheese...lol

What a great cause! Let us know how it goes and definitely about dinner!

We are gonna have to swap cheesecake recipes around here because that's my “thing.” I've got enough content to populate a whole forum dedicated to cheesecake.
Take a look it the National Honey Board. Cheesecake made with honey and other recipes.

You need to go share that link in our recipes forum! I would have never thought there'd be a site just for honey.
There are site for just about any food. That's what makes the internet such a wonderful place. Back in the dark ages when I started cooking all we had were cookbooks, tv shows and oral ones. That's why I'm such a cookbook nerd. Or at least that's what I tell myself every time I pick up a new one and have 200+ in my collection now.

My cookbooks would probably stack 7 feet high and I still use the internet in addition.

Well I spent a good while trying to get my account here confirmed. 3 confirmation emails that did not arrive. Then I went to my ISP mail and found the verification email I was looking for. So I just got in.
You see I use 2 accounts. A Gmail account and one through my ISP that is my master account. Both emails should appear and have been for years until today. But nothing from here.
So I went and logged into my ISP mail account. and sure enough the confirmation email was there.
So I made it and am happy to join the community.
For those from the Cook It Yourself forum I am J. V. And I also am a member at www.electriciantalk.com.

Glad you stuck it out and found your confirmation email! Let us know if you have any suggestions or questions. As you can see, we are just getting up and running, so we would love input on what members would like to see around here.

I had problems also but I attributed them to my ISP (Uverse) being really messed up for some time now. All finally turned up in my junk mail folder. Hotmail is pretty picky also. I told it email from this forum is not junk, shouldn't happen again.

We are hosting the annual Christmas celebration and dinner that we have missed for the last dozen years or more. We were living in Florida and everyone is (wisely, I think) unwilling to travel long distances this time of year.

Ham, two kinds of potatoes, green beans, corn, and dinner rolls.

I'm already getting hungry and I just finished breakfast.

My mother was from the north but was a good cook and used to my the cornbread dressing recipe that my father brought with him from his southern family. Everyone loved it. My daughter and I were going to make it this year for Thanksgiving but plans solidified too late for us to find all of the ingredients in the grocery store so we're going to try again this week in hopes of taking it to xmas dinner.

Try the King Arthur flour version. That's the one I like most.

Today has been one long adventure. I made the mistake of going shopping.

Good flour and good recipes on the King Arthur website. I'm planning on trying the KA version of "00" flour for pasta. Already used it for pizza dough. Absolutely a different finished product.
