This seems to be a classic though I first made it without having eaten it before in the mid 1980's before the internet was around. This is my way.

Two 14.5/15 oz. cans of sweet peas
Mayonnaise
Salt and Pepper if you want or not then don't
Sharp Cheddar Cheese cubed about the same size as the peas, about 3/4 lb or to taste. I used shredded cheese today because wife can't chew the cubes right now.

Lots of recipes on the internet but like I said that wasn't around when I first made it. Add other stuff if you wish.

Yeah thawed frozen would be OK. I've always made it with canned and I have 20 cans of the bloody things plus 10 lbs of freeze dried peas. The FD peas are a PITA to fix. Soak at least 12 hours more is better then an extended cooking time. Not for everyday use.

Peas are the only vegetable I still do not like. I learned to love most everything else. I hated them when I was a kid and that has not changed. I will use them for color in some dishes, but sparingly.

I feel much the same but this salad has helped me get over that. I still won't eat them as a stand alone side dish but mixed with something else I will eat them.

I bought some of this at the deli today. They had some onion slivers in their recipe which added a little texture and some zing to the flavor. Their's was soupy for my preference but I was in a hurry to get lunch for 6 together.

On a hot summer day I can eat something like pea salad for lunch by itself and be satisfied.

Normally I would have done a fine chop on the onions but at present wife can't crunch raw onions like that so I grated them.
