Recipe as written and given to my wife by a work associate. What's wrong with it?

I'd use butter instead of margarine but that isn't what is wrong.

here’s a recipe that ai just pulled off the net

Ingredients for Chocolate Chip Cookies.
  • 1 cup butter, softened


  • 1 cup white sugar


  • 1 cup packed brown sugar


  • 2 eggs


  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract


  • 1 teaspoon baking soda


  • 2 teaspoons hot water


  • ½ teaspoon salt


  • 3 cups all-purpose flour


  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips


  • 1 cup chopped walnuts

They tasted good but you could almost see through them. Wife said they didn't come out that way when the lady made them and the lady wrote it down.

I'm not telling you what's wrong with it yet, l'd like others to look at this thread first. You are looking at it and not seeing it. When I first was making them I had almost no baking experience so didn't figure it out.
BTW it's not a fail just not what was expected.
