I've eaten these only once and loved it. Used to have an aunt and uncle in Natchitoches as well as a female friend and visited all of them regularly. But the meat pies only once. Just sitting here thinking about things I haven't eaten in a while and remembered these. You might ask what is the difference between these and an empanada from Mexico or South American. Well I'd say mainly the seasoning. They are delicious. And glory be, I found a place just a few miles from me that I can get them. WooHoo I'm in hog heaven!

I've found a recipe.

The picture at the top of the website is of a downtown area of Natchitoches taken from the bank area of the Cane River which runs through town. If you seen the movie Steel Magnolias it was filmed entirely in Natchitoches. Damn somehow I've got to go back there.

They look like empanadas…I love making them with ground beef and I put cheese in them either grated cheddar or mozzarella..

And serve them with lots of hot sauce and some chilled sour cream to tone down the hot sauce.👍😋
I also buy the Goya patties …always have them in my freezer.

Yes they do but are seasoned differently. IMO you would be doing them a disservice to put cheese in them and sour cream on them. Hot sauce might be OK but you would lose the flavor and the cheese might get you run out of the state.

The cheese adds a lot of moisture to the patty. personally I love hot sauce and sour cream with all Mexican dishes.
It ain't Mexican, it's a South Louisiana or Cajun thing.
