I have had some excellent vegan dishes. However I have never even heard of vegan BBQ.
I guess you could smoke or grill tofu. Some nice BBQ seasonings and a nice BBQ sauce or wash. Would be very good I assume.Tofu treated like meat can be very good. But you need to buy the best and the most solid tofu you can find for this type cooking.

Anything you smoke is BBQ IMO.

Not my first choice but always plays 2nd fiddle to the ribs, prime rib, butt, etc etc etc 😁

And I never smoke more than one item. Have to have variety (ie smoked AND non-smoked items). Every thing having the same flavour (ie smoke) notes does not make for an interesting meal.

I guess I don't understand why someone would choose a vegan or vegetarian diet and then try to make their food taste like meat.

I have one brother who is a vegetarian because he “cares for animals.” I have chosen to not question his sartorial choices of leather jackets, shoes, and belts.

Another brother insists he’s a “vegetarian, but I still eat pepperoni and hot dogs.” I think that's like a vegan who washes down spoonfuls of butter with milk.

[Edit: fixed "got dogs..."]

Another thing many people do is over smoke. Over smoking is an issue with most home chefs and BBQ enthusiasts.
There is absolutely no reason to use smoke for 100% of the cooking time. And a light wift of white smoke is desired. Not a plume of black smoke exiting the chimney vent. When you see someone smoking something and the smoke is white and very little is eliminated from the vessel you can be certain that person knows what they are doing.
Watch professional BBQ chefs. They almost always use red hot coals not wood to fire their pits when food is in the chamber. So there is little smoke. And a much better result.

I hear ya! What about all these gluten free freaks? My daughter has zero health problems and eats gluten free foods thinking its better for her. She is a health nut and a yoga instructor. All her pals are the same way. Vegans too, until I make a prime rib roast.
Oh and "organic". She buys organic foods almost exclusively. She also thinks this is better for you. I only buy organic when its the only product I can find. Many products in the store are now organic.
Salt. Salt is evil I hear so much. Mainly on boards like this and I expect some feedback on this statement.
I would rather eat tasty food and die sooner, than go without salt. Salt is the very most important mineral on this earth and is the number one ingredient that makes food taste good.
Why does restaurant food taste so good? Salt.
Why do homemade dishes not live up to expectations? Lack of sufficient salt.

Salt is necessary in our diets. And salt is a known flavor enhancer.

You're also not supposed to eat gluten free if you don't have issues. There's absolutely no benefit to it and you can actually deprive yourself of fiber, calcium, B12 and other vitamins and minerals that we need.

I do gluten free every once in a while but only because I have issues and can tell when I'm inflamed. I also spent a lot of time with my PCP and a gastroenterologist figuring this out, I didn't self diagnose. I'm not celiac, but I've got issues with certain carbs. Too much of a good thing and I'm miserable. So, I might opt for one cupcake instead of two as one is just right but two will do me in. Just another scenario where moderation serves me best.

People put themselves through so much unnecessary trouble by following fads. It's not easy cooking gluten free, in fact, it's a royal PITA.

I agree with you when it comes to those who choose to be gluten-free.

However, my mother and my daughter both have Celiac disease (I think that's the right name for it) and it devastates their intestines and their immune systems.

Frankly, I have a personal problem with anyone who is militant enough about their dietary choices that they feel the need to impose their choices on others - PETA is a good example. Make your choices, and live within your choices. Push me to adopt them and we’ll have uncomfortable words.

that is why after eating "chain" pizza, I am soooooooo thirsty about 3 hr later. You can't really taste the salt at the time but I sure do notice the after effects.
