It is so easy to make breads and pizza doughs in the food processor and it only takes 45 seconds
to get it to come together…then you dump it out on a floured surface and kneed it by hand for only
one to two minutes…place it in an oiled bowl, cover it until it rises and then shape it on a cookie sheet
and then let it rise again ( for about 45 minutes) and then bake it..Really it’s painless,
super easy and fast.
Anise Bread… this is my spin
on my Easter Bread recipe with
a few changes. Traditionally Anise
Bread is available only around St Joseph’s
Day…it’s a delicious bread and the
beauty of baking your own bread is
you can have Anise Bread all year long,
like today for instance. 😄 We love it with
a little smear of sweet butter😋
I did a pictorial of the making of this bread,
It’s a very soft bread, it’s also impossible
to mess it up.
Proof your yeast first
this will take 5 minutes:
In a mug mix
1 tablespoon yeast with
1/4 cup warm water and
1 teaspoon sugar
In the food processor, place:
4 cups flour
5 tablespoons melted butter
2 eggs
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup warm milk
1 teaspoon kosher salt
Note: if your using regular salt use less
1 1/2 tablespoons anise seed after you
remove the bread from the food processor
when you kneed the dough by hand.
Directions:
First melt the butter into the warm milk
after it cools down scramble the two eggs
into it.
Put flour and salt and sugar into food processor first,
and pulse a few times to mix it up.
then add the rest of the wet ingredients ingredients
(Milk, eggs, butter and yeast)
And pulse several times until it comes
together…this is a very soft dough, if it
Looks too soft add a little more flour. (I added
a little more) just until is came away a little
bit from the sides of the processor.
(This dough comes together in the processor
by pulsing in only one minute.)
“spoon out” this very soft dough on a floured surface
and sprinkle a little flour on top and kneed it for a
few minutes …this is when you add the anise seed
as you kneed it.
divide dough in two…and oil two
Bowls with a couple teaspoons of vegetable oil.
Swirl dough in bowl to cover all over with oil
cover bowl with plastic wrap and let rise until
double in size…about 1 1/2 hours.
Divide each ball of dough into three ropes pulling
and stretching dough as you roll it..
Then place the ropes on the foiled ( lightly oiled)
cooking sheet and braid it.
Cover with plastic wrap and let rise for second time…
The second rise takes about 45 minutes.
Heat oven to 350° just before putting bread
in the oven beat an egg with 1 tablespoon water
and thoroughly coat bread with a pastry brush
and sprinkle breads with sesame seeds.
Bake bread 25 - 30 minutes @350° last
couple of minutes brown top under the broiler…
Watch carefully not to burn.
Enjoy this delicious Bread with a smear of sweet butter.
