My favorite grocery store hotdog is Koegel's. It's a regional brand that's not distributed far outside of Michigan.

I like Sabrett but those are hard to get in Ohio. For a natural casing I like Dietz & Watson.

There's a local butcher shop called Philip's that makes a great hot dog and it is actually a bit longer than a standard bun. I'm also fond of the split-top buns, which are sold as New England style here and come in a smaller package than most brands (5 or 6 buns instead of 8).

Sabrett's is good but hard to find here (Minnesota). It's easier to find Hebrew National but they taste too salty to me these days. Truthfully, the best hot dog I've had recently has been from Applegate Farms. I like the texture, good flavor, not too salty.

Those routinely get rated as bland in taste tests and I think it is because they aren't as salty as most others. The meat is very good quality but I can't bring myself to pay regular retail for them. I kept a few packs around when I was still working at a supermarket though because we would never sell the whole case, even after we marked them down.

Condiments: I am very flexible and it largely depends on my mood but I tend to the coney with raw onion, mustard and hot dog sauce and I don't mind a couple of spoonfuls of coleslaw on top either. I take my kids to events at Wesbanco Arena in Wheeling, WV from time to time and their hot dog booth has about 12-13 different offerings dressed various ways.

Wife eats BarS brand pink slim because she eats them like candy and they are cheap. I'll eat one occasionally.

The cheap hot dogs I buy at times are Sugardale. I can get the same ones they serve at the baseball park in Cleveland. They are all beef and noticeably more plump than the basic Sugardale weiner.

My one pet peeve with hot dogs is boiling them. All the flavor comes out in the water and the texture is not great either.

I've seen other Sugardale products here but not those. Agree on boiling wieners, wife used to do that, I stopped her. I'll heat them in a pan or on grill, maybe blow them up in the microwave.

I think Hebrew National beef franks are the best.
Thats what we buy. They are widely available and not all that much money. Costco sells them. Thats where we buy them.

My friend from New Jersey is a big Sabrett fan. He says they must be boiled. And the last hot dog in the pot is the best one. He had a bar up there and I think it was just easier to throw them in a big pot and heat them.
I do not boil hot dogs. My wife will not boil hot dogs. We fry them or grill them. And we always make chili cheese dogs with mustard and onions.

Back home the Sabrett roadside stands were maned by beautiful chicks in thong bikinis. There was always a line and no one minded waiting.

This condiment used to be very regional to Northern Ohio but now you can buy throughout the State and into WV too. Probably even in PA up by Erie.
Liquid Bottle Bottle cap Fluid Plastic bottle

Most people think it will be spicy because it's not yellow but it's a sweet mustard. I think it's an American riff on Dusseldorf mustard. There's about 3 companies that make a version but I've always bought that one.
