Comfort Food: When We Need a Little TLC

When it comes to comfort food, I have two go-to options depending on my mood and my willingness to leave the house.

On one hand, there’s nothing like some fast food goodness from Taco Bell*. Give me two soft beef tacos, no lettuce or tomatoes, a nachos supreme and a Dr Pepper, and suddenly the world seems a little brighter.

On the other hand, I also love a good bowl of home-cooked carbs. A bowl of vermicelli soup, spaghetti or rice (with nothing but butter) can be just as satisfying as a fast food feast.

Of course, everyone’s go-to comfort food is different. So, what about y’all? Do you have different comfort foods you turn to, depending on the situation?

*Yes, I'm well aware Taco Bell is not Mexican food. ;)

Beans and rice with soft cooked flour tortillas. And taqueria style pickled jalapenos and carrots.

I could roll with that. I prefer hot and sour but egg drop is never really bad.

Ohhh we love hot and sour soup. Now I'll have to dig up my recipe(s).

Dressing with chicken gravy is something I enjoy any time of year, not just the end of year holidays. Sausage gravy and biscuits or toast, or hamburger gravy.

That she does not like but I love it and do make it.

I had to learn them both since it is 7 miles round trip and about $13 to get a pint of each. 2 pints at home cost less than the gas.

Wonton soup when I'm really sick. I know I'm "near death's door" when I crave wonton soup.

Otherwise it's a good stew or hearty soup.

It's a cold wet day so it's pizza day. Already set the dough to rise and I'll finish it around 3 or 4 this afternoon.

In Ohio we give awards for good bologna. Serve this on a platter with some cheese and crackers. Your day will be better.

I wish we could get ring bologna here but as I've said before folks here don't know how to eat. The last I had was years ago wife's friend brought from Minnesota or Wisconsin, Hormel brand. I can't even find it online.

Don't even need a grinder (I have NOT tried this though) as bologna is not on my list

I have tried it but not sure if it was that recipe. The stuff was OK but not the pink color I expected when using Tender Quick.
I found the recipe I made.

This tastes nothing like the pink slime sold as bologna.
Maybe some large cans of Dinty Moore Beef Stew and Sweet Sue Chicken and Dumplings.
